1:1 Pilates Classes

Going for a 1:1 anything can be intimidating and there could be a lot of hurdles between where you are now, and booking your first private Pilates class. In this blog I’m going to do what I can to address common concerns, and let you know what a private class might look like, and who could stand to benefit.

A woman with short hair performs the Pilates exercise, criss cross, on a mat in a neutral space.

One of the abdominal exercises we could include in your class.

Who is it for?

  • Anyone with special movement needs or who has specific movement goals

  • The elderly, or those with complex medical requirements that make attending a group class more challenging

  • Anyone who can’t make a group class due to their schedule or timings

  • Anyone looking to work at a different pace or level to traditional classes - maybe you want to slow things right down and accommodate pain or injury recovery, or maybe you want to level things up and work on some of the powerhouse classical Pilates moves - get in touch and let me know what you need.

What you will receive

  • A phone call in advance of your class so we can go over your goals and expectations

  • I’ll visit you in your home and bring all of the equipment with me

  • In addition to your 1 hour class at your home, I will send you a list of the exercises that we’ve gone through so that you can group them and practice in your own time - 10 minutes here and there is better than 1 hour once a month!

  • You can email me with questions after your class

  • A discount if you book a block of 6 classes

The benefits

  • I will create a programme specific to you and your needs. Whether you are recovering from an injury, working towards a big movement goal like running a marathon, or just starting out, I can build a programme to help support your goals.

  • You’ll progress more quickly than in a group class because I can give you immediate feedback and respond more precisely than when there are 9 other people in the room

  • It can be great for injury rehab as we can focus on rebuilding strength in specific areas and work around pain or contraindications more carefully

Common fears

  • That you will be judged not good enough by the teacher

    • I do my absolute best to meet you where you are. I’ve been someone with a turbulent personal health journey - from an accomplished gymnast to someone who would regularly fall over just walking down the street - no fitness journey is the same and no journey is linear. I still have to work on consistency and resilience when I lose track of my goals - that’s why having a coach is so important.

  • That you don’t have clear goals/outcomes

    • That’s ok - that’s my job! In your initial session we can spend time looking at where you’re at and where you want to be. I can help guide you with strength, flexibility and coordination and between us we can agree on achievable goals.

  • It’s expensive

    • Private classes are more costly per hour, I currently charge £60 per session for people in Walthamstow (E17 postcode), £70 if I have to travel over 20 minutes to get to you, although there is a discount available for bulk bookings

    • The benefits are that you get my full attention, and a class that is tailored specifically to your goals

    • When you’re ready, you can switch to group classes which are currently £15 per hour

You can book a group of 6 sessions for the price of five (That’s £300 instead of £360!)
